The Oyo State Government has commenced a major road rehabilitation project in key areas of Ibadan, the state capital, to improve transportation infrastructure and enhance mobility.
The project includes the rehabilitation of Bashorun Oluwo-Nla Road, Agbowo Road, Eleyele-Water Road, and Zion Plaza-Olusoji Road.
According to a statement issued on Friday in Ibadan by the Chairman of the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA), Hon. Busoye Ogunlade, the projects are expected to be completed within eight weeks.
He explained that the ongoing rehabilitation is based on the availability of funds and the economic viability of the selected roads.
Ogunlade emphasized that the initiative aligns with the commitment of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration to make the state more attractive to both local and foreign investors.
“Governor Seyi Makinde has given us the mandate to rehabilitate roads across the state, and we have mobilized engineers through direct labor to these sites,” Ogunlade said.
He further noted that the agency had carefully selected critical roads requiring attention across all zones of the state to ensure the project impacts residents positively.
“This decision is based on complaints received during zonal town hall meetings from residents of the state. Our engineers have already taken measurements of these critical roads,” he added.
Hon. Ogunlade revealed that rehabilitation work has commenced on some of the roads, while OYSROMA engineers will soon move to the remaining locations.
“Work has started on several roads as we speak, while repairs on others will begin shortly,” he said.
He advised commuters to adhere to temporary traffic diversions and cooperate with the ongoing construction efforts.
