Oyo Govt. Set to Rehabilitate Township Roads

The Oyo State Government has revealed its plans to embark on upgrade of community/township roads, in a bid to make rural roads motorable.

In a statement on Saturday, the rehabilitation move was made known after the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy matters, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola went on an inspection exercise in some communities.

Hon. Olayiwola, who conveyed government’s readiness to upgrade community roads, also addressed grey areas that could hamper project execution and solicited residents’ support.

He said the present administration will continue to give priority to the welfare of residents, especially at the grassroots level, through the provision of basic and infrastructural amenities.

In his words, “We have a number of roads across the state that are being undertaken by the local government, and this is just one of the roads, and we are here to inspect the road.

“The road is a linkage between two villages, Iresaadu and Ileoodu, a neighbouring village. With the bridge in place, the sky is the starting point, and I can assure you that, before one-year time, you will see houses springing up.

According to Olayiwola, “the road is a benefit to people in the area. It would be accessible for the road users, easy passage, and a sense of belonging for the two villages around, and they will know that we have a government in place.

Some of the roads inspected by the Honourable Commissioner include 1 km road linking Iresaadu village to Ileoodu village in Surulere local government; Kosobo road, Oyo East local government of the State.

A resident in the Kosobo community, Mr. Biodun Ahmed appreciated the State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde for having the Kosobo community in mind.

He said, “Before the road construction, the erosion was disturbing us and a lot of people have left their houses and relocated elsewhere and now, they are back to their place of shelter”.

The dignitaries at the inspection tour were the chairman surulere local government, Hon. Isaiah Alaba, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and Directors.
