A two-storey building collapsed early Monday morning on Amusu Street in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos State, causing panic among nearby residents who rushed to safety as the structure fell.

In a video circulating online, the building can be seen caving in around 8:45 AM. However, Mr. Nosa Okunbor, Head of the Public Affairs Unit at the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed that no casualties were reported from the incident.

Okunbor stated, “LASEMA Response Teams are currently conducting search and rescue operations at the self-collapsed building.” He emphasized that updates would be provided as more information becomes available.

An anonymous LASEMA official added that the building had been evacuated prior to the collapse, ensuring that no one was harmed. “I can confirm that the incident occurred this morning, but thankfully, there were no casualties as an evacuation took place beforehand,” the official noted.

Emergency responders are actively on-site to assess the situation.

This incident follows several recent building collapses in Lagos. In May, a four-storey building on Lagos Island collapsed, trapping an unspecified number of people. Similarly, in July, residents narrowly escaped injury when the boys’ quarters behind a storey building on Oyinlola Street in Iyana Ipaja caved in.
