Pathologist Confirms Mohbad’s Neck Was Not Bent During Burial; Cause of Death Remains Unclear

By Milcah Tanimu

popular musician Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27 and was buried the following day. His unexpected death sparked controversy, leading the Lagos State Government to order a coroner’s inquest. The inquest began on October 13, 2023, at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court.

Pathologist Shokunle testified that the cause of Mohbad’s death could not be determined due to the advanced state of decomposition by the time an autopsy was performed. Despite extensive efforts, the decomposition made it impossible to reach a conclusive autopsy result, leaving many questions about the circumstances of his death unanswered.

Shokunle informed the court, presided over by Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, that the autopsy was conducted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, and photographs were taken for documentation. He also addressed rumors, stating that the late singer’s neck was neither bent nor bleeding after death, refuting any such allegations. Additionally, Shokunle noted that the body was not embalmed and had already begun to decompose before it arrived for autopsy. Heavy stones were found placed on top of Mohbad’s grave when his body was exhumed.

Another witness, Owofeni Ibrahim, who had been friends with Mohbad since childhood, testified that Mohbad was known to be calm, smart, and hardworking. He stated, “Every time I saw Mohbad, he was okay.”

The coroner adjourned the inquest until June 11.
