PDP BoT Backs Turaki-Led NWC, Declares ‘New Era of Unity’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the start of a new phase of peace and reconciliation, declaring an end to months of internal divisions within the party.

The party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) on Tuesday pledged its full support for the newly elected National Working Committee (NWC) led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, describing the development as the beginning of a “New Era of Unity” for the opposition party.

The declaration was made at a BoT meeting attended by key party leaders, including former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana; former Kaduna State governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi; and former Enugu State governor, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo.

Speaking at the meeting, BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, congratulated the party on the successful conduct of its National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, noting that the exercise reflected the PDP’s commitment to internal democracy and transparency.

“The convention is a clear demonstration of our party’s enduring commitment to internal democracy and transparency,” Wabara said.

He expressed confidence in the new leadership, announcing the BoT’s endorsement of the Turaki-led NWC. According to him, early signs from the new leadership indicate renewed confidence, strengthened party structures and improved coordination nationwide.

“These are giant strides that give hope not just to party members, but to millions of Nigerians who see the PDP as a credible alternative to the current state of affairs,” he added.

Wabara also stressed the need for reconciliation within the party, urging members to embrace healing and unity as the PDP moves forward.

Responding, PDP National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki thanked the BoT for its support and assured party members that reconciliation would be a central focus of his leadership.

“We have had our ups and downs. We fought among ourselves, and we were also challenged from within and outside. Now is the time for peace,” Turaki said.

He added that the new leadership believes all disputes can be resolved if members share a common purpose and commitment to the party’s stability and growth.
