PDP Chairman and 1,500 Supporters Defect to APC in Kebbi

By Milcah Tanimu

In a major political shift, Alhaji Bello Layya, Chairman of Argungu Local Government Area in Kebbi State, along with 1,500 supporters, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). This significant defection was marked by a formal reception led by Governor Nasir Idris at the APC Zonal Campaign Rally held in Argungu on Monday.

The defection includes several prominent figures such as all the LG Ward Chairmen, Youth Leader, Women Leader, and former House of Representatives member Garba Musa-Gulma. The event was a showcase of APC’s expanding influence in the region.

Governor Idris, represented by his Deputy, Sen. Umar Abubakar-Tafida, welcomed the new members and expressed his satisfaction with the growing support for APC. The governor highlighted that this influx of PDP members reflects the public’s confidence in the APC administration’s achievements over the past year, particularly in education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure.

Idris urged voters to actively participate in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of supporting APC candidates for local chairmanship and councillorship positions. He reassured the public that the State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC) is committed to conducting free and fair elections.

APC Chairman Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru described the rally as the beginning of a comprehensive campaign effort that will reach local government, ward, polling unit, and household levels. He encouraged both party loyalists and the general electorate to work diligently to ensure APC’s success, stressing that voting for APC would lead to further developmental projects in their communities.

Kana-Zuru also called for a high turnout at the polls, underscoring that backing APC means endorsing continued progress and development throughout Kebbi State.
