The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned what it described as an unprovoked attack by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), asserting that it remains the only viable political force capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP expressed dismay over comments made by Bolaji Abdullahi, the Interim National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, during a recent televised appearance.
“The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party has been drawn to an unprovoked verbal assault by Bolaji Abdullahi, who used a national platform to unjustifiably attack the PDP instead of focusing on pressing national issues,” the statement read.
Ologunagba accused Abdullahi—a former spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC)—of carrying over partisan bias into his new role with the ADC and attempting to distract from the PDP’s growing momentum ahead of 2027.
He said the PDP, as the country’s leading opposition party with nationwide support, would not engage in political squabbles with the ADC or any other opposition group. Rather, the party would remain focused on confronting the APC’s failures and presenting a credible alternative to Nigerians.
“The PDP is the broad-based national platform driving the aspiration of the Nigerian people to end APC’s misrule. We are not deterred by attacks from the ADC or anyone acting on behalf of vested interests,” the statement added.
Despite recent defections, the party said it continues to enjoy strong grassroots support and remains united in its mission to restore effective governance.
The PDP also emphasized that it has several qualified presidential hopefuls with the capacity, experience, and national appeal to defeat President Tinubu in any electoral contest.
“With a legacy of performance that Nigerians fondly remember, the PDP will stay committed to mobilizing the public, shaping constructive political discourse, and working towards forming a people-focused government in 2027,” the party said.
It concluded by reaffirming its openness to collaboration with like-minded individuals and groups in a collective effort to rescue Nigeria from the APC’s governance.
