PDP defeats APC in rescheduled Kaduna LG poll

Francis Zimbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the Saturday rescheduled chairmanship election in Zango Kataf LGA of Kaduna state.

Nuhu Garba, the returning officer, who announced the result on Sunday, said Zimbo secured 28,771 votes to defeat John Hassan, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 19,509 votes.

“Mr Francis Zimbo of the PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared winner of the election and returned elected,’’ NAN quoted Garba as saying.

According to the news agency, the PDP also won nine out of the 11 councillorship seats leaving the remaining two for the APC.

On September 4, elections were cancelled in some LGAs of the state owing to security concerns.

Last Wednesday, Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, said he will appoint sole administrators for the LGAs if the election does not take place.

“I would like to observe that if elections do not take place as scheduled on this date, we will have no option than to appoint administrators to manage these local governments for the next three years,” he had said.

“So it is in the interest of everybody to allow elections to take place, otherwise I will appoint people to manage those local governments.”
