By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno, has urged residents of Sokoto State to take precautionary measures against meningitis, as recent laboratory results have confirmed cases of the disease.

In a statement, Dr. Abubakar Wurno explained that intensified surveillance, case management, and public health interventions have been put in place by the Ministry of Health to curb the spread of the infection.

He advised residents to seek immediate medical attention if they experience fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, or any unusual symptoms.

The commissioner also emphasized the importance of good personal and environmental hygiene, avoiding overcrowded places, and ensuring proper ventilation in homes and public spaces.

Furthermore, he called on the public to report any suspected cases of meningitis or other unusual illnesses to the nearest health facility for prompt medical attention.

Dr. Abubakar Wurno assured that Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has provided all necessary medications and resources to health facilities across the state to combat the outbreak.
