Peter Obi Urged to Decide on 2027 Election Merger for Opposition Unity

By  Milcah  Tanimu

A socio-political group, the Collective Movement (TCM), is calling on former presidential candidate Peter Obi to decide on a potential merger with other opposition parties in preparation for the 2027 elections.

In a statement released on Wednesday, TCM founder Franklin Ekechukwu emphasized the urgency of forming a united opposition to effectively challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Ekechukwu highlighted that an early announcement of the merger would offer Nigerians a clear choice and help unify the opposition for a stronger political front.

“We don’t have time for delays. If this merger is to succeed, we need to establish a clear, united front now,” said Ekechukwu, urging Obi to act swiftly.

The group believes that identifying the merging parties now would build a strong sense of unity, boosting the coalition’s chances of connecting with voters. The move aims to build credibility, inspire confidence, and foster public awareness about the new alliance.

Ekechukwu also suggested that Obi consider joining forces with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. He believes Atiku, described as a “national figure,” could bring added credibility to the coalition, uniting Nigerians across all backgrounds for change.
