Plateau Councils Polls Hold October 9

The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, PLASIEC, has directed all the registered political parties in the state to commence electioneering campaigns preparatory to the local government councils elections scheduled for October 9, 2021.

According to the time table for the elections released by the PLASIEC in Jos today and signed by its Chairman, Fabian Ntung, the release of the timetable actually marks the commencement of political activities which will culminate in the conduct of the elections on Saturday October 9.

The official guidelines released today and signed by the Chairman, Fabian Ntung indicate that the elections will be conducted pursuant to the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission Law of 9th August, 2017, which confers on the Commission “ the powers to regulate the conduct of local government councils elections and matters related thereto”.

The guidelines also direct all parties to make financial payment for nomination and administrative fees and return of forms. It says: all political parties are required to obtain nomination forms from the Plateau Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) headquarters at No 7, John Mark Samchi Road, Jos from Monday June 14, 2021 to Saturday June 19, 2021, between 8am and 4pm”.

The guidelines specified further that “ all forms shall be completed and returned to the Commission by the political parties not later than Wednesday June 23, 2021, between 8am and 4pm”.
