Plateau Government Flags Off Major Rural Road Projects Across Five LGAs

By Israel Adamu, Jos

The Plateau State Government has commenced the construction of key rural road and bridge projects across several local government areas to improve access, boost agricultural productivity, and stimulate local economies.

The projects include the 16.2km Lifidi–Piapung–Tunkus Road and the 13.3km Piapun–Baltep Road in Mikang LGA; the 8.2km Wokkos District Road in Pankshin LGA; the Mban–Gwiwakogi Bridge with a 5.8km access road in Langtang North LGA; and the Mabudi–Zamko Road in Langtang South LGA.

Flag-off ceremonies were held in the benefiting communities, with contractors already mobilised to site and ground clearance underway. Speaking through the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Joshua Laven Ubandoma, Caleb Mutfwang said the projects reflect the administration’s commitment to inclusive development and improving the welfare of rural residents.

At the launch of the Mban–Gwiwakogi Bridge project in Langtang North, the governor noted that the bridge was necessitated by repeated incidents at the river crossing, including the loss of seven lives during the last rainy season.Chairman of Langtang North LGA, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, described the project as long overdue, saying residents—especially farmers, traders, students, and commuters—had endured years of hardship due to poor connectivity.

He said the new infrastructure would enhance economic activities, ease the movement of goods and services, and strengthen links with neighbouring communities, including Wase LGA.

Also speaking, Hon. Abel Nansak Nimchak, representing Langtang North in the Plateau State House of Assembly, praised the collaborative efforts of the state and local governments, describing the bridge as a critical solution to a longstanding challenge.
