Plateau – Over 200 Persons killed in three months says Mangu Development Group

By Israel Adamu ,Jos

Over 204 villagers have been reported killed between April and July this year following killings In some rural communities in Plateau state .

The Mwaghavul ethic group, Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA) made this known yesterday while addressing newsmen at the NUJ secretariat Jos at the weekend .

National President of the association, Joseph Gwankat who read the text said, “once again, with a very heavy heart, address you today on the prevailing organised killings in our communities.

“Let us place it on record that on Wednesday 5th July, two women were attacked and killed in Mper and Millet in Kombun District.

“The following day Thursday, 6th July, 2023, there was an attack on Kogul and five persons were killed, thereafter, the attackers advanced on Niyes killing two persons.

“These callous and unwarranted killings infuriated the youths who spontaneously pursued the attackers in self-defence.”

Gwankat noted that the latest killings has made it 204 people killed and 53 villages raided.

“Our attackers are herders who want to turn out communities to grazing land for their herds.

“Mangu is the food basket of the state but these attacks have driven our people from the farms. Having been deprived of farming, the attacks still go from house to house killing our people.”

The association therefore called on the state and the federal government to put up necessary measures to protect the people of Mangu LGA.

We, therefore, strongly suggest that the Federal Government should declare MACBAN a terrorist Organisation because of the heinous crimes that its members are perpetrating in various parts of Nigeria.

They urged the Government to take full responsibility of educating children below the age of 10 who have lost both parents as a result of the attacks, while arrangements are made for the SS3 students Whose WAEC Exams were disrupted as a result of these attacks ,they further added .

In a related development,There was tension in Mangu local local government area of Plateau state on Sunday following the killing of 12 persons in Sabon Gari community in Mangu local government council of Plateau state .

Our correspondent gathered that the 12 persons killed were mostly women and children who were fleeing a crisis ridden community in the Council .

A source in the community who does not want his name in print confirmed to our correspondent that the gunmen stormed the community late Saturday night and killed the innocent villagers .
