The Plateau State Police Command has arrested 21 suspected members of a cult group in the Jos-Bukuru area and detained two individuals over a viral social media video alleged to contain inciting content.
Police spokesperson Alfred Alabo disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the arrests followed intensified patrols and targeted operations across the metropolis. The operations were conducted under the directive of Commissioner of Police Bassey Ewah to strengthen security during the Ramadan period.
According to the statement, the 21 suspects are under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department and may face prosecution upon conclusion of inquiries.In a separate operation, police arrested two residents of Rikkos, Jos—identified as Mohammed Shuaibu Adam, 16, and Auwal Ilyas Abdullahi, 19—in connection with a TikTok video said to contain statements capable of causing public disorder.
The police said investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court if found culpable. Ewah commended officers involved in the operations and urged them to sustain efforts to address criminal activities in the state. He also called on residents to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
