Police Arrest 20-Year-Old Man in Connection with Girlfriend’s Death in Jigawa

By Daniel Edu

The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old man named Abubakar Abdullahi over the death of his 17-year-old girlfriend, Habiba Samaila. The incident occurred in the Koral village of Garki Local Government Area in Jigawa State, Nigeria.

The suspect was reportedly the boyfriend of the deceased. According to the police’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Adam, the suspect and the victim were allegedly last seen together. The victim’s father reported her missing on August 15, 2023, after she failed to return home the previous day. The father’s efforts to locate her were in vain.

Subsequent investigations revealed that Habiba was last seen with Abubakar Abdullahi. The police promptly arrested the suspect based on the information. Tragically, on August 16, 2023, the decomposed body of Habiba was discovered in a well, bound with a rope. The body was evacuated and taken to General Hospital Ringim for medical examination, where her death was confirmed by a medical doctor.

The suspect is currently in police custody, and he will undergo further investigation. Once the investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse is completed, the suspect will be brought before the court to face legal proceedings for his alleged involvement in the incident.
