Police Arrest Notorious Gun Runners, Bandits’ Informant in Kaduna

By Milcah Tanimu

In a significant crackdown, the Kaduna State Police Command has arrested two notorious gun runners and a bandits’ informant in separate operations aimed at curbing criminal activities in the region. According to the police spokesperson, Mansur Hassan, the two suspects, Abdulaziz Habibu and Nuhu Thomas, were apprehended on August 14 in Madaci village, Zaria. The suspects, residents of Dogon Dawa in Birnin Gwari LGA, were caught in possession of a fabricated AK-47 rifle. They later confessed to their involvement in the illicit trade of arms, supplying them to bandits operating in the Zaria area.

In another operation, the police arrested a 35-year-old man, Abubakar Yahuza, who was working as an informant for kidnappers in Gidan Dogo Forest. Acting on credible intelligence, the police conducted a raid in Gidan Abeh village, Kagarko LGA, on August 18. During this operation, officers from the Police Mobile Force (PMF) responded to gunfire on the outskirts of the village, where they encountered two armed men attempting to abduct two farmers. After a brief exchange of gunfire, the bandits fled, leaving their captives behind. The rescued victims, who had sustained head injuries, received treatment at Kuriga Primary Health Care Centre and have since been discharged.

Kaduna Commissioner of Police, Audu Dabigi, praised the officers involved in these operations and called on the public to continue providing information that could assist in further combating crime in the state. The police are currently conducting ongoing investigations to identify and apprehend other accomplices connected to these criminal activities.
