Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Beheading of Elderly Couple in Abia

The Abia State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the brutal killing of an elderly couple, who were found dead in their home in Etiti-ulo, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.

This was confirmed in a press statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Maureen Chinaka, on Friday.

Earlier reports had revealed that the police confirmed the beheading of Mr. Jacob Udo, aged 78, and his wife, Mrs. Comfort Udo, aged 73. Their lifeless bodies were discovered in a pool of blood inside their residence, along with several missing household items.

According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended following an investigation initiated after police officers examined the crime scene. The suspects are currently undergoing further interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Umuahia.

The statement reads: “⁠On October 2, 2024, we received a report at Bende Divisional Headquarters that around 08:30hrs, Mr. Jacob Udo, aged 78, and Mrs. Dorcas Jacob, aged 73, of Ndiwo Itumbuzo in Bende LGA, Abia State, were found lying lifeless in a pool of blood at their residence. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that several properties had been stolen from their home.”

The couple’s bodies have been moved to a mortuary for an autopsy, while the police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crime.

Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, expressed deep concern over the horrific incident and assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway. He called for calm and reassured the community that the police are committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice is served.
