New information has emerged regarding the recent robbery attack on two banks in Kogi State, revealing that one police officer and one security guard were killed during a shootout with the armed robbers.
State Commissioner of Police, Bernard Onuoha, visited the scene of the crime in Ayingba on Friday, where the casualties were confirmed.
Reports indicated that the attack occurred around 5 pm last Thursday, with eyewitnesses describing the armed robbers as numbering over a dozen and storming the town with the intent of carrying out a large-scale robbery.
In a statement issued by the state police command late Friday, Commissioner Onuoha condemned the attack and deployed tactical teams to restore normalcy.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, stated that the Deputy Commissioner of the Criminal Investigation Department had been instructed to launch an investigation into the incident to apprehend the perpetrators.
The police statement said, “During the exchange of fire with the hoodlums, one police constable paid the supreme price before the arrival of the reinforced team to the scenes. The attackers fled thereafter.”
Commissioner Onuoha reiterated the command’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies and stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of Kogi State residents. He urged the public to provide credible information on suspicious activities to aid law enforcement efforts.
