Police decry inspector’s action

Jennifer Y Omiloli

Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) condemned the action of a police inspector who committed suicide in FCT after killing a police corporal.

A statement from ASP Mariam Yusuf in Abuja said the incident took place on Saturday at the territory’s Dutch Alhaji Police Divisional Headquarters.

She said that preliminary investigation into the incident revealed that the inspector fired a shot at the corporal and injured a Deputy Superintendent of Police before committing suicide.

Yusuf said the Commissioner of Police in Charge of FCT, Mr Bala Ciroma, had ordered a discreet investigation into the incident and put measures in place to forestall future reoccurrence.

He commiserates with the deceased’s family and urged people to stay calm.

Yusuf pledged the command’s dedication during the Yuletide to provide adequate security.
