Police Patrols Enhance Security in Rivers State Local Governments

By   Milcah  Tanimu

The Rivers State Police Command has launched a confidence-building patrol across local government areas (LGAs) in the state. Led by Commissioner CP Bala Mustapha, the patrol began at the Port Harcourt City LGA secretariat and continued to the Obio/Akpor LGA secretariat.

This initiative follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive aimed at restoring and maintaining peace, law, and order in Rivers State. The patrol comes in response to reports of arson and explosions at several local government secretariats after last Saturday’s local council elections.

In a statement issued by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed deep concern over the violence and urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara, along with political leaders and supporters, to exercise restraint and uphold the rule of law. “The judiciary can settle all political disputes,” President Tinubu emphasized. “Self-help has no place in a democratic system, especially after 25 years of continuous democracy.”
