Police raid insurgent camps in Anambra, recover arms

The Anambra State Police Command has conducted raids on camps belonging to gunmen and insurgents notorious for attacking police formations in the state.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, issued on Saturday, the raids were carried out by a joint security force following orders from the state Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye.

In the statement, Ikenga revealed, “In pursuit of the gunmen responsible for recent attacks on two police stations in Awgbu, Orumba North, and Neni, Anaocha LGA, the joint security force, under the directive of CP Aderemi Adeoye, embarked on identifying and dismantling insurgents’ camps used as launchpads for attacks within the state.”

“Previously, we dismantled two camps—one in Ogbunka, Orumba South LGA, and another in Achalla, Awka North LGA.

“On Friday, March 29, 2024, the Joint Security Force raided the forests of Ogbunka in Orumba South LGA, uncovering scattered insurgent camps. The criminals fled upon our approach.

“During the operation, six Improvised Explosive Devices primed for attacks and two walkie-talkies were seized from the camps, along with significant food and grocery supplies. All camps were subsequently destroyed to deny the insurgents bases for launching attacks.”

Ikenga emphasized that the crackdown on insurgents and their camps is ongoing, aiming to eliminate the threat, rescue abducted victims, and recover firearms and stolen vehicles.

The Commissioner of Police conveyed Easter greetings to the people of Anambra, praying for the peace of Christ to prevail throughout the state. He assured citizens of the police command’s dedication to serving them and urged cooperation in identifying insurgent hideouts to safeguard the state’s development and security. He assured informers of police protection and confidentiality.
