Police restores normalcy after incessant militant attacks on A’Ibom market

The chairman of Ini Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Isreal Idaisin has said that Police have brought under control the restive situation prevalent in the major market in the council area.

Adaisin told newsmen yesterday in Uyo that the market has always been disrupted by militants who broke into the market occasionally to loot innocent traders of their wares and money.

The chairman explained after a facility tour of some of his projects, that because of the strategic importance of the market to the communities he was forced to use his security votes to begin the construction of new stalls on the 500 shop market.

“The market is the oldest market in Ini LGA and it’s the major market of our people. As a child I make sure that I go there, but for a long time now, these miscreants and thugs have taken over the market.

“They pursue people and loot their shops and the market totally collapsed. There was nothing left again.

“It was my first call after assumption of office and I said this is all that we have, we cannot allow it to waste away. So, I now moved in, and since there was no money, I had to use my security votes.

“The police and other security agencies help by chasing away the boys and today there is normalcy. The Hausas, the Yorubas and the Igbos that used the market have all returned.” Idaisin said.

The chairman who attributed the success of his administration to determination of his disclosed that he was given an award as the best Local Government chairman from the South South by the presidency because of the market.

“This market has earned me the best Local Government award from the presidency. I was invited to Abuja and given the best chairmanship award from the South South.” He said
