The Police in Akwa Ibom jas warned perpetrators of jungle justice and has vowed to prosecute people involved in the act.
A statement from the State Police Public Relations Officer PPRO Mr Odiko MacDon in Uyo on Thursday said the state police commissioner Mr Amiengheme Andrew is worried over rising cases of jungle justice in the State.
The statement said that the Commissioner is piqued by the recent increase in the resort to jungle justice by some irate mob in the State.
The Commissioner noted that jungle justice was a travesty of justice, as it does not guarantee fairness to anyone and may lead to the death of an innocent person(s).
According to him, the act was a descent into the hobbesian state of anarchy and will not be tolerated.
Such action, the Police boss said negates the subsisting constitutional provisions and has no place in criminal justice administration and urged members of the public to be law abiding and always handover suspected criminals when caught to the Police for diligent prosecution.
“He has warned that henceforth, all perpetrators of jungle justice will be identified, apprehended and prosecuted.” The statement stressed
