Popular Abuja Pastor’s marriage crashes over adultery

By Obisue Emmanuel with Agency Report

Popular Pastor Joshua Iginla of the Royal Champions Assembly in Kubwa, Abuja, has come to the end of his marriage after openly confessing that both he and his wife, Yemisi Iginla, were guilty of infidelity.

According to the pastor who commands a large followership, he had to take the bull by the horn by coming out to openly confess of his sins, adding that he was not the only guilty one, as his wife also cheated.

Pastor Iginla in his confession before members of his congregation during church service recalled that his wife had lied to him about her genotype before marriage.

This, according to him, was the genesis of the problem, as their first child came out to be a sickle cell carrier, thus prompting both parties to seek more healthy children outside.

He noted that his wife was the first to commit the disgraceful act, upon which he forgave her after pleas from members of the family. Trouble now started when his wife found out that he too had gotten a child from another woman.

“Maybe I might be the first man of God doing this. I want you to throw your stones at me, abuse me, insult me, I will receive it. But I want to stay alive, if not for you, for myself. I and your mother in the lord, we met, we had a wonderful marriage.

“Before we started, we did genotype tests. I was AA and she was AS. We had our first daughter and eventually we discovered that she was sickle cell anemia.

“I embraced my daughter and we had a good time with my family. I flowed with my wife and everything was okay. One thing led to another and something happened. What happened is what will make a man to divorce a woman scripturally. I had a backing for that. I had to cover it up to make sure that my marriage moved with my mother.

“When my wife cheated and had an ‘unholy’ child, I covered her up but when mine happened, she started blackmailing me.

“This is why I urge us to pray for our leaders. It’s not easy for me to come out in public to say this, but I warned my wife, she didn’t listen rather she preferred to turn me to a laughing stock,” part of his confession read.

Meanwhile, Sonoj Onoja, Music Director and Choir leader of the church who spoke to our correspondent on telephone confirmed the development.

“Papa was directed by the Holy Spirit to confess because it was eating him up inside,” he said.

Pastor Iginla is widely known for his philanthropic gesture within and outside Kubwa. During his birthday celebration every year, he gives out cars to members of his church and also supports widows and less privileged persons.
