Protests rock Kaduna over killing of student during rerun election

Youths on Sunday barricaded Rigachikun/Zaria expressway, protesting the killing of a Kaduna state university graduate of Sociology during the rerun election in Igabi Federal constituency

The crises linked to alleged security involvement in snatching and running away with results of some Poling Units resulted in the shooting and killing of the graduate in his shop.

Though the military were reportedly drafted to the scene to free the road to allow flow of vehicular movements on Sunday.

As at last count, soldiers drafted to the area reportedly dispersed protesting youth that blocked Rigachikun/Zaria expressway.

However, Rigachikun town and environ is still soaked in tension, as the house of former Speaker, Yusuf Zailani (suspected to have a hand in the shooting of the young lad), has been cordoned off by security operatives, as angry youth allegedly attempted to burn it down after the victim was buried Sunday morning.

Police is yet to make any official pronouncements of the detailed of what led to the shooting and killing of the student.

Meanwhile election result so far released is mostly in favor of the ruling All progressive Congress

Similarly, the result of the rerun election for Igabi federal constituency Kaduna state showed the People’s Democratic Party got 47,313, while APC closely followed with 43,915, with margin of 3,398, while LP got 3,726 and NNPP 5,394,respectively.

Result of rerun for Chawai State Constituency (Kauru) Kaduna state also showed that APC is on top with 24,170, PDP: 23,591, as declared by Returning Officer, Prof. Abdullahi Yunusa of ABU, Zaria.

Result for Chikun State Constituency bye-election, Kaduna also showed that APC got 18,566,
PDP 10,903, and LP 3,285 respectively.
