Re-branding NUJ Is Not Rocket Science – Says Dele Atunbi

Ahead of the 8th Triennial Delegates Conference of the NUJ tagged “Owerri 2024”, leading Presidential candidate of the Union, Mr DELE AtUNBI Esq., has declared that the surest way to reposition the great union is to ensure that journalists elect a leader with deep knowledge and understanding of the NUJ.

He also said that owing to the near collapse state of the Union, it has become paramount for a leader with the required and needed qualities to be elected as President to drive it to the desired position for the overall interest and pride of Nigerian journalists.

Atunbi, who stated these while speaking with delegates in Gombe on Sunday, said: “In my quest to transform our great union, I will re-introduce safety funds to support our members who may be in need of financial assistance, because that is one of the essence of unionism, to cater for ourselves, especially in the time of need.

“I have identified a number of issues affecting our members and the journalism practice in the country, and this being the reason I have prepared a comprehensive and an all-inclusive manifesto to address all identified issues.

“By your popular votes and support, if elected as the President of our great union, my perseverance will be to have a robust and vibrant NEC that will add value to our great union, even in the eyes of the public and not the present style of “media briefing where questions are not tolerated”.

“n the area of fraternity and unity, if elected, I will re-introduce the media games amongst and between State Councils,” he said.

This was just as ATUNBI asserted that: “my priority will be to improve on the wellbeing and the welfare of our members. I am on a rescue mission.”
