“Repentant Boko Haram Members Swore Oath with Quran, Won’t Return to Violence: Borno Government”

By Daniel Edu

The Borno State government stated on Wednesday that the 160,000 repentant Boko Haram insurgents, who have sworn oaths on the Quran, are unlikely to return to violence. Zuwaira Gambo, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, overseeing the affairs of ex-combatants and rescued captives, emphasized that out of the 160,000 repentant insurgents, 70,000 have been successfully resettled and reintegrated into their communities. She dismissed concerns about their resurgence, assuring the public that the transparent process of their repentance involves oath-taking with the Holy Quran in the presence of traditional rulers, religious leaders, and government officials. Gambo asserted that the ex-terrorists understand the consequences of reneging on their oath and the potential fatal consequences from their former commanders in the bush.
