Ruben Amorim Lists Four Reasons Casemiro Is ‘So Important’ to Manchester United

Manchester United’s resurgence under manager Ruben Amorim continued on Saturday with a 4–2 victory over Brighton, propelling the Red Devils into the Premier League’s top four and marking their third straight win.

According to TBR Football, United’s recent triumphs — including last weekend’s shock win over Liverpool at Anfield — have highlighted a growing sense of cohesion within Amorim’s squad. And while much of the attention has focused on new attacking signings like Benjamin Šeško, the United boss has reserved special praise for one of his most experienced players: Casemiro.

The 33-year-old Brazilian midfielder, who faced criticism earlier in his Old Trafford career, has been instrumental in stabilising United’s midfield. Amorim, speaking after the Brighton victory, outlined four key reasons why Casemiro remains vital to his plans:

  1. Experience and Leadership: “He gives a lot of experience,” Amorim said, noting how Casemiro’s calm presence helps guide younger teammates during high-pressure moments.
  2. Work Rate: The Portuguese coach praised the veteran’s relentless energy, saying, “He ran a lot today — pressing high and then tracking back. He’s doing that brilliantly.”
  3. Tactical Discipline: Casemiro’s understanding of defensive structure and positional play has been crucial to restoring balance in United’s midfield.
  4. Example for Others: “The other guys need to look at Casemiro,” Amorim added, urging his squad to emulate the midfielder’s professionalism and intensity.

Casemiro capped his standout display with United’s second goal of the evening, further underlining his importance to the team.

In a tactical move that reflected his trust in the Brazilian, Amorim later substituted Casemiro for Kobbie Mainoo — opting to leave Manuel Ugarte, who had struggled to impose himself, on the pitch.

United fans will hope Casemiro’s resurgence continues as Amorim’s side looks to sustain its climb up the Premier League table.
