The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Abuja has strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Yobe State that occurred on Sunday. The attack, carried out by gunmen believed to be Boko Haram insurgents, targeted Mafa village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area, resulting in extensive destruction and loss of life.

According to Dungus Abdulkarim, Yobe police spokesperson, the assailants looted and burned shops and homes, killing an unspecified number of people and leaving behind fliers with Arabic inscriptions. These fliers cited alleged military connections of the village as the motive behind the attack.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, reported that the attack happened during Magrib prayer, where the gunmen opened fire on worshippers. The assault resulted in the death of 34 individuals, and the attackers planted explosives on the roads leading to the village.

On Tuesday, the military transported 34 bodies to Babbangida General Hospital for mass burial, while some decomposed bodies were buried at the scene.

In response, the Saudi Arabian Embassy condemned the attack as “treacherous” and reaffirmed its stance against terrorism and extremism. The embassy extended its condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Nigeria.
