Schools’ Resumption: Oyo Govt. Sternly Warns Public Schools against non-compliance

…Queries Non-Compliant Schools

The Oyo State Government has warned Headteachers of Public primary schools in the State against non-compliance with COVID-19 safety guidelines, while it queried some schools who refused to comply with extant guidelines for resumption of schools in Oyo State.

The Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran gave the warning today during a state-wide monitoring of schools in Ibadan.

Recall that Oyo State Government trained 2,454 Head-teachers on Safe resumption of schools in Oyo State in the penultimate week.

During the compliance monitoring, Dr. Nureni Adeniran who led a team of management members from Standard and Quality Assurance Department frowned at the poor compliance of teachers and pupils in some schools, as some of them were seen without facemasks and flouting social distancing instructions.

At some schools, Dr. Nureni Adeniran noted that the compliance level was not encouraging, while the team did not meet teachers in others. Pupils did not comply with extant guidelines of social distancing and use of nose-masks.

However, the team applauded the compliance level of some teachers and pupils to resumption guidelines.

Speaking with journalists after the inspection, Dr. Adeniran said, “we want to ensure total commitment to safety in our schools. We can not afford to endanger the lives of our pupils and staff members”.

He also called on the Headteachers of public primary schools to ensure full compliance with the guidelines.

Dr. Adeniran said, “while some schools are serious with the guidelines, some were lackadaisical about the issue of COVID-19 and have been called to order”.

The State-wide monitoring would be extended to other parts of the State during the week.

Schools visited were Methodist Primary School, Agbeni; Islamic Mission School, Yemetu; Ratibi Muslim School, Molete St. Bredan’s Primary School, Kumapayi, Egbeda; Abadina Primary School, UI and St. Thomas Primary School I, II & III, Agbowo.
