In a concerning turn of events, lawyers and activists have united to condemn the alleged exploitation of security agencies by politicians for personal gain, directing their concern towards the Social Democratic Party (SDP) gubernatorial candidate in Kogi State.
Under the banner of Lawyers and Activists for Good Governance, around 500 advocates from various parts of Nigeria gathered for a press conference in Abuja. They addressed President Bola Tinubu and relevant authorities, urging action against politicians, particularly focusing on the SDP and its candidate, Muritala Yakubu.
During the conference, Comrade Mohammed Sanni, a Co-Convener of Lawyers and Activists for Good Governance, highlighted recent incidents involving the SDP. He referenced a press release where the party expressed a lack of confidence in the state’s security agencies, accusing them of planning to arrest some of their members. Sanni questioned why the SDP candidate, Mr. Muritala Ajaka, consistently ignored police invitations and criticized the party’s attempts to blackmail security agencies for performing their lawful duties.
The activists stressed their unwavering support for the police and Department of State Services (DSS) in their efforts to secure Kogi State. They urged these agencies to remain steadfast, ensuring a peaceful election on November 11 by monitoring anyone posing a threat to the upcoming polls. Despite the challenges, they implored security agencies not to succumb to baseless blackmail, emphasizing the importance of continuing their duties professionally and patriotically to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.”
