SEN. Wamakko Tasks  Perm.Secs On Punctuality, Dedication To Duty

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The former Governor of Sokoto State, Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko (Sarkin Yamman Sokoto), has challenged the Permanent Secretaries in the state’s public service to be dedicated and diligent in the discharge of their duties.

Sen. Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District also called on them to be punctual in the discharge of their responsibilities to justify the confidence reposed on them.

The Senator was speaking at his Gawon Nama residence in Sokoto on Thursday shortly after he hosted the Permanent Secretaries to a sumptuous breakfast dinner (Iftar)

Sen. Wamakko said the responsibility of the permanent secretary is too enormous in the Ministry, hence the need for them to ensure the justification of the confidence bestowed on them.

He further added that all the wherewithal needed by the Permanent Secretaries have been given to them by the state government as contained in a statement by his media aide Bashar Abubakar.

He said, “The state government has provided the requisite enabling them to function effectively. Hence, they have no reason not to work efficaciously.

“Therefore, they must stay at their various offices to work according to the laid-down guidelines governing their duties.”

The Senator, however, maintained that it is only when the Permanent Secretary reports to the office on time that the junior ones can follow suit.

Sen. Wamakko also described the Permanent Secretaries as the engine rooms of the public service, as such, they should strive to live above board.

He used the medium to thank them for the visit and wished them all the best while in active service.

During the visit, the Permanent Secretaries were led by the State Head of Service, Sulaiman S. Fulani Ahmadu.

Also present at the breakfast were Amb. Sahabi Isah Gada, Prof. Mustapha Namakka, among others.
