Senator Lalong Applauds President Tinubu for Honoring General Yakubu Gowon

The renaming of the University of Abuja in honor of former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, by President Bola Tinubu has been hailed as a well-deserved recognition of one of Nigeria’s most iconic leaders and elder statesmen.

Senator Simon Bako Lalong, representing Plateau South Senatorial District, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the gesture, describing it as a testament to General Gowon’s invaluable contributions to the unity, peace, and progress of Nigeria.

Lalong noted that the renaming comes shortly after the nation celebrated General Gowon’s 90th birthday, during which he was widely praised for his pivotal role in nation-building.

The Senator believes that naming the University of Abuja after General Gowon will inspire the institution to greater achievements in research, teaching, and learning. He also expressed hope that the University would embrace this change to promote the values and vision embodied by General Gowon in its academic and administrative pursuits.
