The usage of dialogue in resolving crises that was accompanied with violent extremism sometimes ago in Egume in Dekina local government area has been applauded. The long overdue Fulani herdsmen /farmers clashes in Egume Community was amicably resolved recently.
In an interview with the National President of Egume-Ome Descendants Union (EODU) in Dekina local government area of Kogi state, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim hailed the end of 25 years Herders/Communal clashes within few months of his assumption of office.
He affirmed that the lingering crisis which over the years had led to the loss of souls and property as well as underdevelopment in the area is now a thing of the past and attributed this laudable achievements to the leadership excellent of his Executive members.
Ibrahim disclosed that as soon as he assumed office he constituted a-9-man committee headed by a traditional ruler that worked tirelessly to achieve the success story saying that peace and tranquility under his leadership has returned to Egume Community and it’s environs.
The resolution according to him would enhance peaceful coexistence among the farmers and Fulani herdsmen that would allow maximum utilisation of skills and resourcefulness towards the growth of the state and the Nation’s economy.
“With the recent resolution, the poverty level of our people would be reduced as the usual outcry of farmers over massive destruction of farm products/produce by cows has been put to rest”.
“Am very optimistic that there will be massive food production this farming season as other natural and human attacks on farmland has been curbed.” he assured.
He said that his next battle is to compliment government’s efforts in the fight against kidnapping, robbery and other forms of criminality bedeviling the community.
Alhaji Ibrahim warned against youths’ restiveness, short cut to riches and called on future leaders not to relent in embracing education as the bedrock of every society and to always embark on ventures that would make them productive and useful to themselves and the country at large.
According the National President “My leadership will continue to initiate programmes and activities that would engage youths in skill acquisition that would disabuse their minds from social vices and focus on how to unite and bring massive development to their father land.”
“There is something I would like to educate our people. Being the closest to the people at the grassroots, stakeholders must not allow any crises to escalate, no matter how little we might termed it. We should always rise to challenges and Quel such crises to a minimal level before beckoning for government’s intervention.”
Alhaji Ibrahim’d leadership quality and contributions towards the development of Egume community
cannot be overemphasized especially in education sector.
“The payment of school fees of the 10 best students of Government Secondary School, Egume, provision of ICT Center, computers and 1,000 scientific calculators to facilitate effective teaching and learning in the institution.”
He assured that the cooperation of his EXCo and the entire people of Egume will certainly enhance the sustenance of peace in the area and even spur him to do more for his immediate community.
