In the last five days, residents of Kaduna state have taken to the streets in search of water due to severe scarcity in the state.
Our correspondent who went round the populous Sabon Tasha, Television, ungwan Boro communities and environment reported that residents of those areas are going through hell having sleepless nights in searching for water.
Most of the residents who spoke to our reporter expressed dismay over what many of them amply described as so sudden, unexpected and alien under the current administration.
While some of residents blamed the acute and unprecedented water scarcity on lack of electricity and fuel scarcity to even pump borehole water, others apportion the blame on government and water board staff in the state for stopping supply to residents for weeks.
Findings revealed most residents have not being paying for their utility bills especially pipe borne water supply for years with arrears of payment running into hundreds of thousand and millions of naira in many households.
The residents, also complained of poor, inconsistent and irregular water supply but with undesirable water bills, expressing fears of water borne diseases.
“Even when there’s no water supply for days, weeks or even months, the water board will give residents same bills, even more and compiled them as outstanding arrears of water bills for compounds.
All effort to access the relevant authority to clarify, proved abortive as an office assistant alleged that the commissioners and subordinator are banned from speaking to journalists.
However some the official who spoke in confidence attributed the scarcity to the ongoing urban infrastructural development across the state.
