Individuals from the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) prominently known as Shi’ites broke into the National Assembly complex premises on Tuesday, July 9, bringing about a conflict with security agents.
The Shi’ites broke down the first gate and proceeded to the second, which fills in as the primary access to the complex.
Notwithstanding, security agents on ground repulsed the protest with gunshots fired into the air to scatter the dissenters.
Daybreak.ng gathered that the group is reportedly protesting the continued detention of Ibrahim Elzakzaky, their leader.
Premium Times reports that according to a witness, the group shot at policemen as one of the officers was rushed to the hospital close by in a critical condition.
The Shi’ites burnt some vehicles parked close to the gate, while more security operatives were drafted to the scene to contain the situation.
