‘Single Mother Stigma Only Applies to Poor Women’ – Mercy Eke

Nigerian reality TV star and Big Brother Naija Season 4 winner, Mercy Eke, has said she would have no issue having children outside of marriage.

Speaking during a recent podcast interview, Eke explained that although getting pregnant before marriage is not something she plans to do, she would keep the baby if it happened.

She expressed confidence that being a single mother would not negatively impact her life, insisting that the stigma associated with single motherhood affects only women who are financially disadvantaged.

She said:
“I won’t go the extra mile to get pregnant out of wedlock. But if it happens, I would keep the pregnancy and have my baby. I want three kids—two girls and one boy, or all girls. I love female children.

“Even if I don’t get married, I would still have kids. What most people don’t know is that the stigma of being a single mother only applies to women who don’t have things going well for them.

“The single mothers who are breaking boundaries—men are begging them for marriage. I can get married tomorrow if I want. But the kind of man I want, I haven’t seen yet. It’s not that there are no suitors. There are plenty. So even if I have a baby, I’ll still find a man,” she said.
