Sir Emeka Offor condoles with Majiyagbe family

Sir Dr. Emeka Offor has commiserated with the Majiyagbe family over the death of Mr. Jonathan Babatunde Majiyagbe SAN, OFR.

This is contained in a statement issued by Sir Emeka Offor, on behalf of his family to the wife of the deceased, Mrs Abike Majiyagbe and made available to news men in Abuja.

Mr. Majiyagbe, a renowned Nigerian lawyer and respected Senior Advocate, passed away at the age of 89 years.

The news of his demise was confirmed on Saturday morning at an undisclosed hospital in Abuja.

Sir Offor extended his sincere condolences to the family, friends and associates of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

He noted that the late Majiyagbe who was the first Lawyer practising in Northern Nigeria to attain the rank of Senior Advocate was a man of total decency and a doyen of the legal profession in the country.

“I honestly feel a sense of personal loss on the passing unto glory of our beloved father, brother, uncle, mentor and Leader Jonathan Babatunde Majiyagbe SAN, OFR, who passed at the age of 89 years.

“Accept our sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathies at this difficult moments
and time.

“Daddy Jonathan was an extra-ordinary Nigerian and scored many firsts in his distinguished career.

“He was the first Lawyer practising in Northern Nigeria to be elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

“He was an Elder Statesman and the first and only African to have become President of Rotary International.

“Jonathan’s accomplishments both nationally and internationally distinguished him as a rare gem making his death our collective loss/grief but heaven’s gain,” he said.

Offor also noted that Majiyagbe attained prominence within the Rotary Club, ultimately assuming the role of President, Rotary International, adding that he was a man of uncommon style and panache, descent and treated humanity with uncommon courtesy.

“He lived for Rotary and died in Rotary – Rotarian Par Excellence. As Rotary International Polio
Ambassador to Nigeria, I commend his Rotary spirit and diligent participatory mentorship even when he was already challenged by ill-health.

“He will be deeply missed but his memory shall continue to live in our hearts and his great works as his footprints shall also be consoling to all of us.

“Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this challenging time.

“May the Almighty God forgive his shortcomings and grant his soul eternal repose,” he said.
