Six farmers killed in S/Kaduna LG, 300 houses burnt, 8000 displaced

Six persons have been reportedly killed in their farms in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, 300 houses burnt and 8000 persons displaced in Atyap Chiefdom in Southern part of Kaduna State.

This revelations was made when the paramount ruler of Atyap Chiefdom, Agwa Atyap Dominic Yahaya visited various Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps spread across his chiefdom.

He said the six persons were shot dead by gunmen when they were discussing with herders who allegedly invaded their farms.


A district head of Ungwan Gaya, Mr Luke Yahaya disclaimed media report that the six victims were killed during a clash.


He explained that the six victims rushed to their farms when informed of herders enthronement, and were there talking to the herders when some people from bush came and shot them.


The coordinator of Sarmaro Kataf IDPs camp, Victor Elaisa said the 43 displaced communities from three local government areas including Kaura, Kauru and Zangon Kataf are in the Sarmaron IDPs camp.


According to the traditional ruler, the sixth person died when burial of the victims were being done and who was later buried too.
Our correspondent reported that majority of the IDPs who are women and children told journalsts that they lost all their houses, properties and means of livelihood and have no any other place to go to stay after the attack on them than the IDPs.


The paramount ruler strongly appealed to government and Civil Society to come their aid and help rebuild their communities to enable the displaced persons return back to their homes and continue to do their legitimate business.
