Society commends state govts promoting good nutrition

Coordinators of Civil Society Scaling-Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN)
on Thursday commended state governments for supporting programmes toward promoting good nutrition among residents.

The coordinators of the coalition, a group of organisations with shared vision to transform the country into a country
where every citizen has food and is nutrition secured, gave the commendation
in separate interviews with Daybreak News in Abuja at the end of a stakeholders meeting.

The theme of the meeting was “Scaling-Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Pooled Fund Window 1 end of project report’’.

The CS-SUNN Coordinator in Kwara, Mr Francis Fatoye, thanked Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq “for prompt intervention
to the organisation’s activities in the state.”

According to him, Kwara is blessed to have a governor that is committed to the CS-SUNN project.

He said that the Kwara governor had released counterpart funding for the array of projects on nutrition and
promised to do more to enhance the wellbeing of residents.

He added that “there are line ministries in the state that work on nutrition, especially on budget issues. This is a huge development
that would turnaround nutrition interventions in the state.”

The CS-SUNN Coordinator in Gombe State, Mrs Comfort Mukolo, also commended Gov. Muhammad Yahaya,
“for helping to reduce malnutrition in the state.”

Mukolo said that before the governor’s intervention, Gombe State was grappling with the problem of  malnutrition, a situation that claimed the
lives of many children.

She said CS-SUNN had sensitised residents on the need to imbibe good nutrition habits that would boost their health
status.

Mr Adio Oluwasegun, the CS-SUNN Coordinator in Oyo State, also thanked the state government for supporting nutrition programmes.

He said “the Oyo State Government’s plan of action on nutrition had been completed.”

However, Mr Kenneth Amogu, the Imo CS-SUNN Coordinator, appealed to the state government to adequately fund nutrition programmes, saying
the government’s counterpart funding was insufficient.

Amogu added that “although there is budget for nutrition programmes, the amount is very low compared with the magnitude of nutrition-related
issues in the state.

“We are calling on the state government to release money from the federation allocation account for nutrition projects.”
