SOKAPU Youth Slams elected Rep member’s silence over killings in S/Kaduna

By Gabriel Udeh, Kaduna

The Youth Wing of the Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU) has expressed serious concern over the growing spade of attacks and killings across villages and communities in Southern parts of kaduna which had left many dead and scores injured.

SOKAPU youths is particularly worried about the continued silence and inactions of Southern Kaduna elected representatives both at the state and federal level.

A statement issued and made available to journalists in Kaduna on Thursday lamented that “One barely see or hear any Southern Kaduna elected representatives lending their voices in protest at plenaries.

“Most worrisome is the continued silence and inactions of Southern Kaduna elected representatives both at the state and federal level.

“One barely see or hear any Southern kaduna elected representatives lending their voices in protest at plenaries.

“It thus suffices to say Southern Kaduna elected representatives have abandoned the responsibilities and task of speaking in defence of it’s people to the Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU) alone.

“Rather concerned with only the accruable and privileges attached to their elective offices, with no form of material assistance to affected families, communities and internally displaced persons

“It is therefore emphatic to remind Southern Kaduna representatives that representation isn’t just about issuing condolence messages and visits to families who lost love ones as a result of their nonchalant attitude towards the safety and well-being of the very people they claim to represents.

“We are therefore charging every elected representatives across Southern Kaduna to live up to the responsibilities of representation which entails standing in defence of the people, promoting the well-being of the people and protecting the overall interest of the people.

“Similarly, we are urging Southern Kaduna representatives to come together to setup a sovereign support fund where every representatives contributes on monthly basis for the support of affected families, communities and the internally displaced.

“Inview of the above, the Youth Wing shall not hesitate to sensitize it’s members across all local government area of Southern Kaduna on the need to reject any unproductive and self-centered representatives.

In the words of Martin Luther King “A time will come when we will not remember the words and actions of our enemies, but the silence of our friends and brothers”, he stated.
