Sokoto Police Command Arrests 22 in Connection with Theft and Vandalism

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, announced that the Sokoto Police Command has arrested 22 suspects in connection with various crimes, including theft and vandalism. He shared this information while addressing newsmen on the Command’s activities over the past quarter.

Commissioner Musa noted that while crimes and criminal activities have generally decreased in Sokoto State, the purpose of the briefing was to inform the media and the public about the significant achievements in crime prevention and control, as well as the successes in prompt detection and investigation.

“In keeping with our obligations to ensure the safety of lives and properties, and in recognition of our dedication to public safety, the Sokoto Police Command is pleased to announce the apprehension of 22 suspects involved in various criminal activities,” he stated.

The Commissioner revealed that the arrests followed a report from the Goronyo Police Station regarding the vandalism and theft of aluminum conductor wires intended for the Sokoto East electrification reconstruction project in Goronyo town. Investigations revealed that the suspects confessed to conspiring with Aminu, Faisal Hamza, and a receiver named Abu Yantukane, who specialized in vandalizing electric wires along Achida Road.

In a related incident on October 6, police officers, in conjunction with local vigilantes, intercepted Sulaiman Ahmad and Shamsu Muhammad, who were found in possession of copper wires suspected to be stolen property.

Furthermore, the Operations Manager of the Gagi branch of the Water Board reported that 35 meters of armored cable wires had been vandalized in Gagi. This led to the arrest of five suspects who confessed to the crime.

“Acting on actionable intelligence, officers from the Sokoto Police Command’s Striking Force arrested Nasiru Yahaya and Yasir Shehu for stealing 13 motorcycles from various locations throughout Sokoto metropolis,” the Commissioner added in his maiden address to journalists since assuming his position in Sokoto a few months ago.

Commissioner Musa assured the media and the general public that the Sokoto Police Command is committed to providing a safe environment for the residents of Sokoto to conduct their daily business and activities peacefully.
