Sokoto State Approves N1.1 Billion for Flood Relief, Motorized Boats and Life Jackets

The Sokoto State Government has approved N1.1 billion for the purchase of motorized boats and life jackets to assist communities affected by flooding. The decision was reached during the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.

According to the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Dadi Adare, the relief materials will be distributed to 22 local government areas (LGAs) that have been impacted by flooding this year. Only Dange-Shuni LGA was reported to be unaffected by the disaster.

Adare emphasized that the initiative follows recommendations from a state committee tasked with addressing the flood crisis, which affected nearly the entire state.

Additional Approvals for Vulnerable Populations and Infrastructure

In addition to flood relief efforts, the council approved N565.2 million for the procurement of 12,376 25kg bags of rice. The rice will be distributed to the poor and vulnerable in Sokoto State, providing crucial support in these challenging times.

The council also approved N149.8 million for the completion of the terminal block at Alu Garage, a key transport hub in the state.

These initiatives are part of the state government’s broader effort to mitigate the effects of natural disasters and provide assistance to its citizens.
