The Sokoto State government, under the leadership of Governor Ahmad Aliyu, has officially launched the distribution of dry season fertilizers to farmers across the state. The distribution was flagged off in Wamakko, with the governor announcing that each of the 23 local government areas would receive three truckloads of essential farming commodities, free of charge.
Governor Aliyu highlighted that the initiative is part of his administration’s *Smart 9-Point Agenda*, emphasizing agriculture’s critical role in ensuring self-reliance and boosting the state’s economy. He underscored that agriculture remains a long-standing pillar of economic growth and development.
“To ensure surplus dry season irrigation farming, the Kware irrigation scheme covering 450 hectares has been completed and will soon be allocated to farmers,” Governor Aliyu stated. “We are committed to contributing towards food security and improving the living conditions of our people.”
The governor further explained that each local government area would receive a variety of farming inputs, including NPK, Urea, insecticides, pesticides, and other necessary agrochemicals for dry season farming. He urged the distribution committee to carry out their task with fairness and integrity, warning that anyone caught diverting the resources would face strict consequences.
He also called on civil servants, politicians, business owners, youth, and the entire populace to take advantage of the opportunities in the agricultural sector to enhance self-reliance and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of Wamakko Local Government, Alhaji Ummaru Ahmad Dundaye, commended the governor’s efforts in promoting agriculture. He expressed appreciation for the steps taken by the government to support farmers.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Bello Muhammed Wamakko, also praised the initiative, describing the distribution as a positive and timely step to support farmers in the state.
Representing the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, Galadiman Gari, Alhaji Aliyu Attahiru, affirmed that the governor had fulfilled many of his campaign promises in less than two years. He emphasized the importance of farming for human survival and applauded the governor’s work, noting that Sokoto will not regret having elected such a leader.
The Sultan added, “Farming is essential to human existence, and looking at the governor’s 9-point agenda, we can confidently say he is doing well. Just a few months ago, he distributed fertilizers free of charge to farmers for the rainy season.”
