SOSG Screened Students On Emergency Scholarship

By Muhammad Ibrahim,Sokoto

Sokoto state government has commenced screening of Usman Danfodio University students who are on emergency payment of tertiary fees.

Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto who is just one month plus on the mantle of Sokoto governance has ordered payment of three years school fees not paid by the past administration.

Speaking to newsmen during the screening exercise, the Executive Chairman of the Board, Nasiru Aliyu Dantsoho said this is to enable the Sokoto indigenes seat for their forthcoming examinations.

He added that the none payment prompted the school authorities to deny their students seat for exams adding that “only indigenes will benefit with the payment.

“The last administration has left a very high debt on education and sectors of governance, what we are trying to do is to make sure that all outstanding debt has been paid and our students feel comfortable to write their exams without any harassment from the Institution”,averred the Chairman.

Furthermore, the Executive Chairman revealed that those of Usman Danfodio University are more on emergency than the rest of the institutions, saying the number of enrolled students is based on those who reported for screening as all the 23 LGAs in the state are to participate in the ongoing screening.

One of the students Aisha Muhammad Abdulkadir interviewed acknowledged government’s contributions for saving their educational continuity as they are about to forgo studies having come from poor families.
