Strange illness kills Two in kogi – Commissioner

No fewer than two persons have been confirmed dead at the Fulani and Tiv farm settlement areas as a result of strange illness in Odo-Ere in Yagba West Local Government Area of kogi state.

Daybreak correspondent gathered that those affected by the ailment are currently receiving treatment at some nearby private hospitals and ECWA Hospital, Egbe in Yagba West Local government area of the state.

When contacted, the Director of Local government, Yagba West,  Mr. Reuben Oshagbemi disclosed that the incident was first reported at a private clinic,  saying symptoms of the sickness include: Stooling, diarrhoea and vomiting.

He noted that upon receiving the reports, some health workers were immediately mobilized to the settlement to treat the patients, pointing out that the situation is now under control.

Mr. Oshagbemi explained that the Ministry of Health has been contacted, noting that the State Epidiomologist will determine the illness as he advised the people to continue to observe personal hygiene to avoid any outbreak of diseases.

It could be recalled that a strange illness kill some people at Okoloke, a boundary between Kogi and Kwara States about three years ago.

However, when contacted, the kogi state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Saka Audu said his team of medical personnel will be visiting the community this week to find out situation of things and ascertain the causes of the illness.

In a related development, the commissioner also confirmed of a strange illness in a border town of Enugu and kogi states but not in Ette, kogi state adding that his team of medical personnel just came back from Ette in Olamaboro local government council of the state.
