Students of Lafia Polytechnic protest over closure of registration portal

The Students of Isa Musthapha Agwai Polytechnic Lafia have protested over the closure of the registration portal by the management of the institution.
The angry students barricaded Lafia-Jos Road in the capital of Nasarawa State for several hours until they were chased away by the personnel of Nigeria Army and the Police.
Daybreak news gathered who visited the scene of the protest on Thursday in Lafia reports that the students destroyed some structures and property of the Polytechnic.
Daybreak news also reports that the property destroyed include; part of administrative block, street light, water tank, vehicles belonging to staff, Information and Communication Centre (ICT), Security house at the gate of the institution among others.
Speaking to newsmen, Alkamis Ladan, National President of Nasarawa State Students Association (NASSA) said the protest was due to the closure of registration portal by the management.
He explained that the students were to commence examination on Monday 15 and the students yet to pay their registration were requested to pay additional N10, 000 before they could reopen the portal.
The NASSA National President appealed to the management to reopen the portal in the interest of peace and development in the institution.
The student leader also appealed the his fellow students to remain calm as they would engage the management towards finding lasting solution to the problem.
When contacted, Justina Kotso, Rector of the Polytechnic confirmed the protest and said the management was currently meeting with the management of the ministry of education to decide on the next line of action.
