Member, House of Representatives, Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, on Sunday, distributed cash grants aimed at economically empowering about 40 members of her constituency.

The grants were given after the constituents completed a 3-day training with the support of the National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

Speaking in Ibadan, Akande-Sadipe said the training was aimed at economic empowerment of her constituents.

Akande-Sadipe added that the gesture was in fulfillment of her campaign promises made to the people, that her second term will engage them into more economic opportunities.

Mrs. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, the former Chairman, House Committee on Diaspora, also called on the government to provide soft loans for the people as a way of empowering them economically and reducing poverty in the country.

“Today 40 members of my constituency were cleared for cash grants after participating in the ‘Business Entrepreneurship and development’ capacity development program”, Akande-Sadipe said.

“I urge the participants to use the knowledge garnered during this training to be self-reliant and to improve their standard of living,” she said.

Akande-Sadipe said in addition to today’s gesture which earmarks the beginning of her participation in the 10th National Assembly, she has successfully trained thousands of youths in different skills.

She said the past training programs have enabled many to become self-reliant, and have contributed their quota to the development of Oluyole constituency.

On selection criteria of beneficiaries, she said her constituency office threw it open to residents of Oluyole by reaching out to community leaders, as well as religious leaders.

The lawmaker who is representing Oluyole Federal Constituency on a 2nd term mandate, also facilitated medical equipment to Primary Health Centers, in the Constituency.

This, according to her, is part of her bid to elevate the standard of healthcare delivery across her constituency.

  • Tinubu’s Endorsement Of Akpabio For Senate President Won’t Change – Ndume

Tinubu’s Endorsement Of Akpabio For Senate President Won’t Change – Ndume

Senator Ali Ndume has said that President Bola Tinubu told him that Senator Godswill Akpabio is his preferred candidate for the President of the 10th Senate.

“The President told me that his preferred candidate is Akpabio and I should lead the campaign,” Ndume said on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday.

The lawmaker representing Borno South at the Senate added that Tinubu also told him to personally lead the campaign for Akpabio’s Senate President ambition.

He expressed confidence that the President won’t change his stance on the leadership of the 10th Senate.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) had in May zoned four principal positions for the 10th National Assembly and named elected lawmakers to occupy each position.

The zoning arrangement is as follows: Senate President – South-South, Senator Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom); and Deputy Senate President – North West, Senator Barau Jibrin (Kano).

Others are the Speaker of the House of Representatives (North-West) – Abass Tajudeen (Kaduna); and Deputy Speaker, South East-Hon. Ben Kalu (Abia).

According to the lawmaker who has been in the National Assembly for 20 years, out of the 109 elected Senators in the red chamber, 75 have queued behind the ambition of Akpabio as of today.

Admitting strong competition from the camp of the former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, who is another top contender for the position of the Senate President, Ndume said the Akpabio camp has all the advantages.

“As at today I am telling you we have 75 senators. All advantages are on our side. We have the support of the party, we have the support of the president, and most importantly we have the support of most of the senators. These senators signed up to endorse our programme,” he said.

While maintaining confidence in the ability of the Akpabio camp to carry the day during the election, the Borno lawmaker did not rule out surprises as he acknowledged that people can change their mind at the last minute.

“Let’s say that some people will jump over at the last minute, that can happen, but I am very confident. I don’t want to be overconfident because people can change their mind, but we have a better candidate.

“We have two candidates that are in front now, that is Yari and Akpabio and our candidate has all the advantages over the other candidate, politically and intellectually, we have an added advantage,” Ndume stated.

  • Politicians already buying positions ahead of 10th Assembly – Sen Ndume

Politicians already buying positions ahead of 10th Assembly – Sen Ndume

The lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, has claimed that politicians have already started “buying” political positions ahead of the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.

Ndume made this claim while speaking in an interview on Channels TV.

Ndume said: “There should be Unexplained Wealth Act so that if you display wealth that is not in tandem with your income, you should be investigated and (the wealth) confiscated and, if it is extensive, you should be prosecuted.

“Now, you can see what is happening. They are trying to buy the position. The position in the leadership of this country is becoming those that belong to kleptocrats and plutocrats. Democracy is no longer there.”

The lawmaker also said he would have won the Senate President seat in 2019 if he had money.

He said: “They are buying it already. Didn’t you hear about the accusation that they are sharing money?

“And I was even thinking in the last election, if I had more money, I would have won. I don’t have money.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker who has been in the National Assembly for 20 years pushed for an “Unexplained Wealth Act” to deal with corrupt politicians with suspicious wealth.

Recall that the ruling APC won majority of the legislative seats during the elections with over 55 Senate seats out of 109 and over 160 out of 360 House of Representatives seats.

After the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections, many APC legislative members-elect have been jostling for the highly coveted positions in the red and green chambers.
