Ghana’s president reveals how Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram are recruiting Nigerians

The president of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, has said Al-Qaeda and Boko Haram are taking advantage of poverty in North-East Nigeria, to recruit new members.

Akufo-Addo stated this on Monday, while on a working visit to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission in Abuja.

According to him, the insurgents were also making inroads in the Lake Chad Basin, Mali and the Greater Sahel.

“This is most worrying, because surrogates of Al-Qaeda in the Sahel and Boko Haram militants operating around the Lake Chad Basin, the two most active terrorist groups in West Africa, are exploiting the unacceptable levels of poverty in these areas, in the recruitment and indoctrination of youth,” Akufo-Addo said.

The Ghanaian president called for a strong regional approach to contain the growing threats of terrorist and extremist activities.

“‘You will recall that, on 12th September, 2019, ECOWAS organised, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, an Extraordinary Summit on Eradication of Terrorism in ECOWAS.

”Following the summit, a 2020 to 2024 Plan of Action was adopted by the 56th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government in December, 2019, in Abuja.

”To this end, one billion dollars (US$1 billion) was programmed for the financing of activities in the Action Plan. We have to intensify our efforts to ensure that the Plan of Action is well financed, with a view to ridding our community of terrorism,” he added.

  • REVEALED: How Osama bin Laden communicate with Al-Qaeda via Porn Videos

Al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden may have secretly communicated with his terrorist associates by hiding coded messages in porn videos

Osama bin Laden sent coded messages hidden in porn videos to secretly communicate with Al-Qaeda - New documentary reveals

Bin Laden organized the worst terrorist hit on American soil infamously known as 9/11.

In a new National Geographic special, titled Bin laden’s Hard Drive, the digital materials recovered in Bin Laden’s compound, when he was killed in Abbottabad, Pakistan on May 2, 2011, by U.S. Navy SEAL Team Six in an overnight raid, are being analyzed.

Materials seized from the compound by US forces included digital thumb drives.

Officials of the US Defence Ministry say they are not yet sure precisely where in the compound the pornography was discovered or who had been viewing it.

They also said they did not know if bin Laden himself had acquired or viewed the materials as he didn’t have internet at his compound or a computer even though he had some TVs.

Officials believe these drives may have been a way through which couriers carried electronic messages to and from the al Qaeda leader.

The new documentary also reveals Bin laden’s computers also contained hundreds of news reports and documentaries about himself as he wanted to always be ahead of the media.

CNN security analyst Peter Bergen, reacting to the documentary says the porn materials obtained alongside the hard drives will help the US Military understand how terrorists think and also prevent other Bin Laden’s from coming out.

Bergen was the first western journalist to interview bin Laden on TV.

Bergen says: “Exploring these hard drives, it’s clear that digital information can say a lot. Osama bin Laden’s files left behind an imprint of a complex man, responsible for the murder of thousands of people.

“History will remember him for that but, in order to cut through the perception of this ascetic in a cave on a holy crusade, it’s important for us to see how he crafted the videos that went out to his followers.

“Understanding him is vital in order to combat other potential bin Ladens in the future.”
