A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Muhammad Bello, said “these media reports are false in all material particulars and should be completely disregarded.”

The statement titled “Sokoto State Did Not Divert N189 billion or Any Kobo”, read: “Our attention has been drawn to reckless and provoking reports by some online new media about alleged diversion of N189 Billion by the Sokoto State Government. “We alert the public that these media reports are products of orchestrated efforts by political hacks to taint the reputation of Governor Aminu Tambuwal, who is a frontline aspirant for 2023 PDP Presidential ticket. The Government of Sokoto State has established deserved reputation as the champion of budget transparency, fiscal responsibility, and open governance. We have subscribed to the Open Government Partnership (OGP).

“It is noteworthy that in December 2020, the World Bank rated the Sokoto State as number one state in Nigeria in fiscal transparency as a recognition of Governor Tambuwal’s unflinching commitment to the implementation of the States Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) and for efforts to champion budgetary transparency in Nigeria. Babangida gave the counsel when he received the former Senate President Bukola Saraki; Bauchi, and Sokoto State governors, Bala Mohammed and Aminu Tambwal respectively when they paid him a courtesy visit at his Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State on Thursday.

“Your belief in having a better Nigeria featured very prominently. You made my day. What you talked about is Nigeria, Nigeria, Nigeria. I want you to keep it up, for the benefit of this country and generations yet unborn,” Babangida said in reaction to the comments from Mr Saraki who led the three-man delegation.

“I want you to keep it up, for the benefit of this country and generations yet unborn. What you are doing is good, this is how the country should develop.”

He promised to support the group “so long as you stay on the course of promoting Nigeria all the time, making it a secure country”.

Earlier, the former two-time governor of Kwara State had said they were in Minna “as part of our consultations; going round the country talking to our elders and stakeholders”.

Tambuwal: Seeking Presidency Collective, Above Zoning, Other Considerations

    By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has reiterated that the task of seeking the position of President and subsequently running the office is not predicated upon the zoning of the quest and other isolated indices but upon the collective interest of all the people of the country whose existence and subsistence is at stake now.

This was contained in a release signed and issued to newsmen in Sokoto by the Special Adviser on media and publicity to governor Tambuwal, Muhammad Bello.

According to Gov. Tambuwal, Nigeria is on the brink of collapse, thus require the communal resolve of all to save it from sinking completely.

The Governor stated this on Sunday when the Concerned Citizens of Nigeria who purchased N40 million forms for him to indicate his interest in running for the number one job in the country next year under the auspices of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“As our situation is in Nigeria today and in times like this, when the situation is so dire and the country is in distress, members of that community or country must come together and put whatever differences they have aside to save the country.

“It calls for every concerted effort from every and all concerned citizen to put their hands together to rescue it from an imminent collapse,” he said.

Lamenting the devaluation of the Naira, insecurity, corruption economic downturns, unemployment; inflation and every aspect of life that are failing, the Governor said his seeking the position of President is not an overbearing ambition, but a quest informed by the need to rescue the country from its quagmire.

He explained that having foreseen what later became the abysmal failure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) misrule about two years after it came to power, he and his allies left the party for the PDP.

And, now, he emphasized, “it behoves on us, as leaders, as responsible leaders of this country, to once again, come together to rescue Nigeria. It would be too bad for Nigeria if APC remains in charge of affairs after 2023.

“Things are rather getting bad and worse . That situation that demanded us to rise to that challenge of working towards changing the defective APC government at the center has not changed. Things are rather getting worse and bad,” he said.

Noting that seeking the Presidency is a “collective thing”, he said “no single individual can do it alone. No zone can do it alone. No state can do it alone. No tribe can do it alone. No members of a particular faith can do it alone.

“Nigeria is our common heritage. It is our country. All of us must be hands-on in saving our country,” he submitted.

He expressed gratitude to the group who presented him with the forms they brought and assured them that he will make his stand known after he concludes his ongoing consultation on the matter.

“You are right. I have friends from across the length and breadth of this country. You are right. I understand the federal structure of this country. I quite appreciate the complexity of the Nigerian state. I have the requisite experience, by the grace of God, to seek for the office of the President.

“As I said, I am still consulting. I will come back to you.after my consultation very soon,” he said.

In his remarks, Mr Akinboro (SAN) said they purchased the form for the Governor in recognition of his sterling and the need to rescue the country from its current bad situation.

Describing the Governor as young, active agile, and detribalized Nigerian with no zealous attachment to his faith, Mr Akinboro
added that he is a person with integrity who can be trusted to lead the country forward.

2023: Pick Me, Get Power Before Sharing It Tambuwal Admonishes PDP

    By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been advised to run for and clinch the position of President of the country in the forthcoming election in 2023.

Subsequently, once the Presidency is in its kitty it can then decide on how to allocate important positions to deserving members.

Governor’s media aide Muhammad Bello sad these were the advises of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who has been consulting stakeholders across the country in his bid get the party’s ticket for President, when former presiding officers of states and the House of Representatives converged at the ballroom of the Fraser Suites in Abuja on Tuesday to deliberate on his aspiration.

Referring to the calls for zoning of the Presidential nomination to a section of the country by some members of the party, Gov. Tambuwal reminded the PDP of how the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015 ignored zoning and decided on retaining the presidential slot in Katsina state, from where late President Yar’adua hailed.

“You can share tickets because you can tear it up, but you must plan to win. PDP must accept this reality. The ticket must be balanced, as zoning or any Muslim-Muslim ticket or Christian-Christian ticket would be dead on arrival and recipes for disaster, he further counseled, pledging not to be lopsided in the ahttp://daybreak.ng/wp-admin/post.php?post=101324&action=trash&_wpnonce=d6b368f975llocation of all offices if he is considered for nomination to run for the position of President by the party.

Looking at how governorship and House of Representatives elections were contested and won in Anambra and Plateau states respectively, he analyzed factors that the party should take into consideration if it wants to win the elections next year: demographics, intra-party wrangling rife in the APC, voter education and rigging; and, indicated that the PDP should be strategic in its nomination of who will bear its flag next year.

He said with the APC being strong in the Northern region, with 14 governors; and the PDP sharing the same positions with it in the Southern region, the PDP would have to “think well, plan well and win this election.”

Giving a long, historical and incisive insights into his political trajectory, which was devoid of ethnic jingoism and religious zealotry, he assured the PDP and its adherents of his competence, capabilities and capacities as an experienced legislator, economical administrator and and consummate ‘life bencher.’

“I am coming with my pan-Nigerian content, competences in handling federal and governance issues, in addition to having references in all the 360 constituencies in the country who can vouch for me.

“It has never been this bad for governance in this country, therefore, the President we need is one that understands the country, inclusive in his dealings and one that will allow the rule of law to flourish,” Tambuwal said, explaining that he has all the qualities and what the other aspirants in the PDP lack.

“From the array of those running for President now, I dare say that I am closer to the youths,” he emphasized, noting that “age is a factor for what we are doing today,” just as he pointed to many of his achievements as Governor of Sokoto state despite the paucity of funds accruing to the state.

Gov. Tambuwal who received accolades and endorsements to run for the position of President from his colleagues at the reunion was accompanied by a former Governor of Sokoto state, Attahiru Bafarawa, a former Deputy Governor in the state, Alhaji Mukhtar Shagari and Engr. Bello Suleiman.

… To Share Thoughts With Atiku Soon

This was contained in a release signed and issued to newsmen by the Special Adviser on media and Publicity to the governor Muhammad Bello.

The trio, all seeking the nomination of the PDP to run for the seat of Nigeria’s President, met for about two and half an hours in Government House, Bauchi.

At the close of the meeting they posited that it is their considered resolution that against the backdrop of the failure of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to provide good governance, all those seeking to be President under the PDP should unite and rally round one candidate.

The triumvirate from the three geopolitical zones in the Northern part of the country- North-Central, North-East and North-West also agreed that at a later date they will visit former President Atiku Abubakar, himself another presidential aspirant from the North, to brief him on the outcome of their brainstorm.

Saraki who briefed journalists after the meeting said: “we appreciate that all of us have shown ambition but only one person could lead.”

“For this reason, we decided that we should all embrace consensus going forward in order to make things easier for our party’s stability,” Saraki stated.

He pointed out that their convergence, taking cognizance of the sorry state of the country and its people, which the APC is not ready to alleviate, are convinced that the PDP must lead the way in the March to rescue the country in 2023.

He asserted that although all of them seeking the numero uno position are all qualified to contest, “we are ready to sacrifice our ambitions.”

“We have agreed to put our heads together and see how best to provide leadership and direction for this country, its unity, stability and progress.

“These are more important than our individual ambitions, thus the need for us to work together,” he emphasized.

“Today is momentous. The PDP is ready because what is important is Nigeria. Whatever we do, Nigeria should come first,” the former Senate President further added.

While Governor Tambuwal was accompanied by the former Deputy Governor of Zamfara state, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau and a Chieftain of the PDP in Sokoto state, Engr Bello Suleiman, Saraki came along with the former national Chairman of the PDP,
Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje and others.
